Rhinoplasty can be performed using either an "open" or a "closed" technique, depending on the individual patient. In the "closed" approach, incisions are hidden inside the nose and scars are not visible from the outside, and in the "open" approach, the surgery is performed through a small incision that the surgeon makes across the strip of tissue between the nostrils. In this woman's surgery, her surgeon decreased the size of her dorsal hump, giving her nose a straighter bridge. In this type of reduction procedure, the surgeon may also reshape some of the soft tissue at the nose tip to prevent a "ski-slope" appearance.
